August 31, 2008

Well, yesterday was a short entry as I didn't start it until later in the day. I wanted to get the server up and running as fast as I can. You may have also noticed that I am in the process of adding a server status to each page under the logo. Its already on the index page so it may just stay there. I have to ask for a favor though. If you see a forbidden page error, I need you to email me as I forgot to chmod 777 the server again. I need to do this when ever I add a new page. I will be making a new email account for the server soon.
Well, the server is an old laptop I had. The T20 actually. Since there is no user interface, the processor should be okay without a fan. This is a temporary solution though. The laptop sits on that Targus ChillHub I got. I check the uptime frequently to make sure that it doesn't go down on me. As I have said before, its a 750MHZ Pentium 3 with 384MB of RAM.
The new domain really fits for me too. I mean, homelinux.com:81 (that :81 is needed) is perfect for a Linux geek like me. The server is hosted on Linux too. The server is a LAMPP server. Thats an Apache server. I can't remember what it means and I am too lazy to go look it up. I do know that its a Linux Apache server with SQL and PHP.
I can control the server through SSH and FTP too. Very cool if ya ask me. I am trying to find a good SSH client for my iPAQ. I would get one for my NEC too if it had a WiFi card. I have an FTP client for my iPAQ and even on my NEC with Total Commander. Not only is it the best freeware file manager but its also a FTP client!
You know, I would love to learn to touch type. It would really speed up my typing and make it possible to type in the dark. I am still pretty fast for the two finger typing. Well, sometimes I use my other fingers If they are really close to the letter I need. I use the pinky finger for the shift key. I also use my thumbs for the space bar. My friend just uses the index fingers only. Thats so annoying to need to reach down for the space bar. and the pinky is perfect for the shift and enter keys!
Thats another reason I really like the TrackPoint mouse. Its so much faster then using the touch pad. You don't need to move your fingers from the home row. and your thumb is perfect for the buttons when they are right under the space bar. Of course there is always the possibility of pressing a G H or B... Since the key is so close to the little nubby.
I got a haircut yesterday too. I feel a lot better now. I love having really short hair! It doesn't get in the way. That is the most annoying thing to me is really long hair. It just gets in your face and annoys you. I would rather be bald sometimes. When you sweat, your head gets drenched!
Well, I have started to try to find WiFi when ever I can now to check on th server. I am not worried about it staying up really as I know Ubuntu is really stable. I am worried about it shutting off because it over heated. That would be really bad for me. I also need to find a good place for it that its not in the way but I can get it when ever I need it.
I can not wait for the fall weather. Its just so hot here! I hate summer so much!!! I want to be outside but I can't. I end up getting annoyed and going back inside. I would love to use my RC more. I have been preparing it for the fall. Mostly cleaning it. I am tuning the engine nice. I went to put on my shaft starter too and guess what? I can't find the starter shaft! I don't know where I put it but I am sure I will find it soon enough. If not, I am fine with th pull starter for now.
I decided to get a small air compressor for cleaning the car. I am sick of trying to dig out the huge 10 gallon on form the shed. We got This from Harbor Freight for only 70 bucks! Pretty great deal huh?
I would love to get a real server like the IBM Z series. I would get one if I had the money but they are a lot of money! I think they cost over a million dollars! Way to much for me. Well, my site is very basic and probably draws very little use from the server.
You know sometimes I really miss having that Treo. It was so much easier to use in the car. Of course it is pretty much useless for me to have a Treo and not even have service. The data plan on Verizon would kill me! I would love to one of the devices that HTC makes without the cell phone part. Hell, even a Motorola Q without the phone.
One of the problems of having a laptop in the car is the sun on the screen. I forgot to clean mine so its covered in dust and the sun makes it all show. I have to start carrying a bottle of the cleaner and my cloth with me anymore. I have the backpack case, why not keep some stuff in it?
I am going to try and use my iPAQ more anymore. I figure I paid enough for the keyboard. I might as well give it some use right! Of course, when I work on these entries in OpenOffice.org... I save them as a .odt file. So thats a little bit of a problem now isn't it? The best thing though is using it for my the internet. Better then a magazine by far!
You know, I have been thinking of turning my buggy into a truggy. This would be better as a truggy is higher off the ground like a monster truck but handles good like a buggy. This would mean getting truck tires and rims, plus the adapters, and redoing the gear ratio. So the main question is it worth the money? It wold run better in the yard though.

Okay the concert was great so here is just a short summary of today!
The freezer is working again.
I got another 2GB SD card for my camera
MY OWN SERVER!

August 29, 2007

Well, its back to Syracuse today for the second time. This time we are going to see America. Last time it was Poco, Pure Prairie League, and Fire Fall. The annoying thing is last time it was hot as hell and guess what today's forecast for today is there? 91 again! Ugh!!!! Why must it be hot as hell? They pick the best days for these state fairs huh???
Well this is just great, our fridge broke again. The freezer door was open a bit last night and now the temperature isn't going down enough. Well I guess the good thing is that we won't be home to worry about it. We unplugged it so it won't cause a fire, and we have everything we need in coolers with ice. Lets hope the rest of today turns out to be better.
Well, I have to use the Acer on car trips now. I guess its not really that cramped but I do like using a smaller computer regardlessly. Its a lot easier to use the smaller one. The T20 all the more because it has a TrackPoint mouse. They are easier to use in the back of a car really. They require less arm movement for instance.
Ah the joy of road construction. On the turn pike besides! Down to 1 lane travel. FUN! I don't even see anyone working on the closed lane so what gives? Well, I guess its going to be a long ride today.
I have to say, I am really liking the smaller desk. I find the having less room for junk keeps it cleaner for me. This is a big help for me since I am very messy. I have a stand that I keep stuff on like my printer. Its a nice solution for me. Since the shared laser doesn't always get detected for me.
I don't know if I said this yesterday but I took my router back since I decided I didn't really need it. This gave me some more room really. I can't stand cluttered wires! A router needs at least 2 cables too! If it wasn't for my light, I would only have 1 cable for the laptop. That would be great! I have a wireless mouse so theres no clutter there! Personally, I think everything should be wireless where possible.
We had to take our phones back yesterday too. I forgot to mention that! They were sounding very badly. We got the same ones of course. They really are a nice phone. Theres the one flaw though: the Verizon operating system on them. Kind of ruins the idea of buying a phone because of the features. The phone would be the same exact thing if it was made by Motorola. There would be no differences.
As you can see, the site was dormant for a good 10 days. I apologize for my laziness. I will be trying to get more entries up soon. Hopefully they will be more organized, unlike today's! Most of today's is stuff that pops into my head.
Well, today was the first day of school here. Lucky for me, I DON'T NEED TO GO ANYMORE!
I am still undecided about college. I want to go but don't in a way. I am just so sick of school. Always being tested on crap. Though if I do go, I am going for Computer Software Engineering. Fun field if your a geek like me. I love computers so its a natural for me.
Nothing like happy hardcore on a car trip. I have my Zen Vision M with me so I have some good tunes. While the tunes are on my laptop too, I have never tried playing WMA on Linux. That is why I have the MP3 player though right? The only thing I wish I had was one with a removable battery.
I have to say, I am dying for some Chinese food. I love that stuff! I would love a nice big plate of chicken fried rice right now, something the buffet doesn't have! That and I would also love a nice ice cold StarBucks frappuchino. Vanilla of course! I love them things! All part of being a caffeine lover I suppose. I could also go for a slice of Dominoes pizza. Pepperoni is the best when you cover it in blue cheese.
I was smart enough to bring the laptop cooler today. I am at 46 C so pretty good. I have it on "Power Save" to have it at 800MHZ even though I am on the adapter. I love having an inverter. I hate when my laptop runs hot and its during the summer. In the winter its nice since its cold.
I noticed I can stay up on the way home easier now. Maybe its because its summer. Now I could only see my keyboard at night haha.

August 28, 2007

Well, I decided to take back the router. I decided that it just isn't worth keeping for me. I don't need it. I got it because it was cheap. I get a decent signal on my Acer. Since I won't be using the ThinkPad now, I don't need a router in my room.
I decided to get a desk. Its a smaller desk really. Its made by Bush and cost 100 bucks at Staples. Its not a bad desk. Whats really nice is that it folds up for movement. It has a pair of wheels on it. I like the fact that its smaller then my old one by a lot. I wanted a desk that has enough room for my Acer and mouse pad.
I need to figure out how to get my touch pad buttons to have the tactile click. Its pretty annoying for me since I can't stand using it like this. Its a pain in the thumb to press the buttons. Thats why I am glad that I have a USB mouse.
You may be wondering why I went back to them. Simple: they have no ads.

August 27, 2007

Well, its been a while since I updated this site. You can blame a few things lately. I got addicted to Chrono Trigger for a few days. Then once I found my PlayStation 2, I started playing Final Fantasy X. I didn't bear Chrono Trigger. I rather play Final Fantasy X. I got past the boss that I was stuck on last time, and I decided to quit playing as the next area has 4 bosses in a row. Now that makes the game just plain annoying!
Well, I went on a car trip Friday and will be again on Wednesday. I am going to Syracuse New York for a state fair and concert.
Guess what BROKE on me! The ThinkPad T20 that I use for these trips. So now I need to try and use the Acer. I can use it in the Focus but its a little cramped. I will try and fix the T20. Maybe I can hardwire the fan to a 5V power source like the USB port. I will try and see if I can get a cheap, or even free, laptop that is small enough. Maybe I can get a old iBook. Sure they run a totally different operating system, but it would be fun to play with.
I would love to have a Mac to play with. I can run all the programs I need on one. They have a OpenOffice.org version for Mac. My computer is already set up like classic Mac. I know I said I hate Mac's before... I hate Apple, not there Operating System.
I hate bees! One went into the car. Funny thing is that I have pictures of bees! I love the 6x zoom on that camera though! If you look at the gallery page, I have more pictures. I got some very nice buttery fly pictures. I am not sure if they are Viceroy or real Monarch butterflies though.

August 19, 2007

Well, the new router is working out great for me. I was only getting 66% even when next to it at first but I found at that it was the horrible BroadCom support so I am now using NDISWRAPPER. So far it seems to be much better then the drivers they made. I can get the full speed now too! Now I need to see how long the card stays working before I need to reboot.
Lucky for me, all I need to do is a little weed whacking today. I don't need to mow any lawns today! I don't mind cutting grass but its just so tiring. I would love to get more lawns to cut since until I get my license, its my only source of income. I will get a real job eventually but I am waiting until next year.
Well, we went to Office Depot and they had a very nice camera on clearance so we picked it up. Its a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5. It has a 6X optical zoom and is a 6MP camera. Here are some nice macro mode pictures I took with it.

August 18, 2007

Well, its Saturday once again so guess where I am going! The Chinese buffet! Yep, I go there a lot lately. I love Chinese food, especially buffets! We are going to that new one again. We are going for lunch though of course this time. No crab legs but its still great food.
Well, yesterday was fun. I helped a friend from school pick out a new laptop. He got a VAIO CR series in red from Best Buy. He got a damn nice computer for a pretty good price. It has 2GB of RAM which is really needed for Vista. Still, I can't help but being cheap and getting a budget model.
Well, I cleaned my room up again. I got rid of a lot of crap only keeping what I really need. This included my printer. I gave my dad back the UPS for the pellet stove since fall is coming. The only PDAs I have downstairs are my iPAQ and NEC. They are not on the desk though but in a drawer. I am trying to cut my dependence on the iPAQ. I only have my laptops on the main desk and on the little side desk I have my MP3 player and phone with my headset. I figure its the best way to keep this organized.
Well, I am getting Linux more to my liking. I have, as I said before, decided to not give up this time. I will NOT go back to Windows. I have gotten my ThinkPad T20 set to have some great battery life too. The estimate right now says FOUR hours. I don't know how true that is but if I can get 4 hours without the WiFi on... I will be very surprised. I also have the Acer very close to fool proof. Sure my WiFi is a little funky but its easy enough to reboot the computer.
Guess what I got! A NEW ROUTER! I got a D-Link DIR-615. This one is a Draft N router. I got it for 50 bucks! This is for my room so I can have a better signal in my room. Pretty great deal for a Draft N router huh?
Hey, I found a supply of those quick release connectors that my neck strap has. They are part of a calculator at Dollar Tree! The strap is a little small...

August 17, 2007

I know I have been a little on the lazy side when it comes to the site lately. I will try to keep more up to date anymore. Its mostly due to me being tired. So heres a brief update of the past three days:
Well, GNOME, the default desktop environment for Ubuntu, turned ten. I highly prefer this to KDE. Its more like Mac OS where KDE is more like Windows.
I also stepped on a bee the other day. God I hate bees! I decided to take out the OFNA. I had it running great when the fail safe kicked in telling me the batteries were dead. Thats when I stepped on Mr. Bee. Well Looks like Mr. Bee ain't returning to th hive no more...
The CD also celebrated a birthday! 25 years! Thats a long time for a format if you ask me.
Ok now that's out of the way, I'm thinking of having a fun stuff page. This will be just as it says: FUN STUFF!
I have permission from my one friend to post some stuff he said. This will be the first fun stuff page. I will ask the other people in that thread if I may post it here. Expect this soon.

August 14, 2007

On Sunday, I posted about getting the new Targus ChillHub. Well, its probably going back. Its not cooling enough for me to warrant the 55 dollar price tag. While yes, it is keeping the case very cool, the processor is still running at only 5 degrees Celsius cooler at full load. 5 degrees is nice and all but for $55, I want more then that!
Since I was sort of using it as a USB, I decided that I would mount my 7 port hub UNDER my desk. This was achieved with the master invention of DUCK TAPE! Yes, duck tape... Some electrical tape was used as it was thinner and easier to use in some spots. This is really good for stuff like a mouse and flash drive since my USB ports are on the side... Thanks Acer! The only bad thing about this mounted hub how ever is the cables need to be plugged in UPSIDE DOWN!
I also got my Zen Vision:M to start charging over USB which means one less power cable! Whats even better is that I can use a small (as in only a few inches) USB cable to reach the hub mounted at the edge of the desk. This is really great to reduce cable clutter. I am also able to use it under Linux with Gnomad 2. This allows me to add music to it!
I have decided to stop using Word documents and switch all my new files to OpenOffice.org default ODT file. This makes it much easier for me to open and save the files. Sure this means that I can not use the iPAQ anymore for this but who cares. The thing is messed up again anyway. Since I uninstalled SoftMaker Office, it lost the file association with Word. This is really annoying as the only way I can think of fixing it involved a good old fashion hard reset. I can not load my programs back onto it as I don't run Windows anymore. Too bad huh??? I am not going to dual boot for a stupid PDA!
You know I was thinking the other day... I miss the Microsoft Flight Simulator. The one I had was 95 so it was pretty old really. Of course, it wasn't the most fun thing in the world but it was like using a RC plane if you think about it. One thing I would love to get is Real Flight G3. This is a RC plane and helicopter simulator that you can use as a tool to learn to fly. I mean that as in learn to fly RC, not real aircraft haha. Of course, this is really expensive as it comes with the controller similar to that of real RC planes and helicopters. I would love to learn to fly my little Blade CP helicopter we got awhile ago.
One of the great things about me using Linux is that I am using my MP3 player, the Zen Vision:M, a lot more now. This is good since I didn't use it much lately as I could just use the streaming radio. I can still listen from the iPAQ if I really wanted to though. I would rather listen to my own music anymore though. I can download the mixes that DJ's like DJ No Left Turn put up online. Sure they take up an hour and a lot of space but its worth it! Some of them also put up tracks for download which is cool too as its all legal.
I am also really starting to feel "at home" on my laptops. I never really cared for Windows interface. I love the GNOME interface though. On XP I always try to make my start menu as small as I can and have all my stuff I use a lot as quick launch on the start menu. This would make it really nice but also feel cluttered. On GNOME, I have the 3 most used icons on my panel and I can still add more. I might add a few more in a drawer though if I can learn how to do scripts. This is nice as I can do a lot more stuff on GNOME then Windows in my opinion. Like I have that nice DATE AND TIME, the window switcher instead of a task bar, and the notification area is SMALL. I hate when I have like 10 icons on it when I used Windows. The battery meter I have is big yes but very nice. I get a graphically percentage and the run time left. Lot nicer then the Windows battery meter and this isn't a add on, its in the operating system!!! I also found out an easy way to get a temperature gauge for the CPU. There is also the really cool weather plug in I am running.
I am also loving all the free games for Linux. I can play ones I love like Mahjongg. I love the fact that Tetris is also built in. I also love that the default browser is Firefox and has GAIM already installed. Of course I use Pidgin! Oh well right??? OpenOffice.org is also included in the operating system thankfully.
The best part of Linux though is that I no longer bump my WiFi button all the time. Since its not used to turn it on or off anymore for some reason. It still glows when its one and now it will flash when its actually in use.
With Linux I am learning a lot of new stuff like CTRL ALT BACKSPACE to restart X. This is really needed when I need to edit the xorg.conf file. This means that stuff like mouse, resolution, and other stuff. Its also good to kill all programs.
I may just keep the fan, I guess that 5 Degrees is better then nothing. It does keep the case cooler. This is good since the place were the video card and WiFi card is at is a hot spot.

Guess what?
I have decided that Newsites sucks too much for me to keep. The forums are GONE also and I will not be bringing them back. Sorry but they just didn't get enough users and posts for me to warrant keeping them. As always, you can email me your errors.
Yes, I know that I lost 15GB of storage space and 280GB of bandwidth, but its worth it to get rid of Newsites. I am using, as you can see, Free Host Place now.
Well, I have decided to go back to OpenOffice.org since its a better than AbiWord, I will just have to get use to the loading times I guess. Too bad as AbiWord is instant loading. I guess its because it doesn't do as much as OpenOffice.org does. Like I love the auto correction stuff. ITS SO MUCH EASIER! Like I spell because wrong a lot. Mostly I mix up the a and u.
Well, as you can see... I am back on Ubuntu and I am really getting it working great. I found out the command to lock my processor into power save mode. This helps me as I can save a lot of battery life.
Sorry that this isn't really long as I have stuff to get fixed for the new site. As you can see, I uploaded all of the old pages.

August 10, 2007

It feels great to be back! Yes, I am on Linux 100% again. How long will I last this time? Only time shall tell. As I have tried this before, I am forcing my self to break away from XP. I will run only Linux. The Acer is the laptop that never seems to accept Linux. This time I will be FORCING MY SELF to get it working to my liking.
This also means that my iPAQ is now a stand alone PDA as I will not be connecting it to my laptops anymore unless I am charging it. Good thing for me there are the CAB files that programs tend to have. This means I can just copy them to an SD card and install that way. Good thing for me! I could always get a palm though. Too bad that Palm OS is crap for me.
Whats really great is that I have the 2 laptops set up almost exactly the same. Its nice to be able to use either laptop and feel at home on the operating system. I keep all my main files on a flash drive so that I can have them on each computer. I still have the Portable Applications Suite on the 4GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro. I am thinking that I may just take them off the drive. I don't get much chance to use other computers in the summer.
Well guess what? I got a new phone! My dads phone decided to stop charging so we went to the Verizon store and they said we could get our new phones now. We got 2 LG VX8300 phones. I got a case, car charger and Bluetooth headset. I gave dad my charger since I don't need it. He will get a case in a little while. The headset is a Jabra 135. I am hoping the volume is loud enough on this one!!!

August 9, 2007

Well, guess who decided to go back to Linux. That's right, I just don't learn ha ha! I am using Ubuntu 7.04 "Feisty Fawn" once again. I will probably upgrade to 7.10 "Gutsy Gibbon" once its out in October. I have it working great on the IBM and plan to get it working just as great on the Acer. I will not give up this time!
Sorry for the short entry, I am still messing with stuff on Ubuntu.

August 6, 2007

I was suppose to post this page yesterday but I was lazy so here it is today!
Well, I discovered a shocking truth... Microsoft is censoring MSN. This takes place on the servers and effects any client. There are a few things that will cause it to ignore the message: .info download.php and gallery.php. There may be more but these are the three I know of. There is a thread on my forums for this located Here
I have decided to uninstall SoftMaker as I do not like it that much. Its a waste of my memory. I will just stick with the short comings of Word Mobile. I don't need something that overpowered and I would rather have my 20MB back. Too bad that we need to use 3rd party programs to fix Microsoft's mistakes. Why can't these companies just do stuff right the first time?
Sorry this post is short! Good news is that I will have sendmail soon! WooHoo! I also added the gallery link.

August 4, 2007

The forums are up and running now. I just ask that if you register, to shut off all the email options until I buy sendmail. MMMKAY? Thanks!
Well, there is one thing that is really annoying me right now. That is the fact that I have a laptop. Why I am I annoyed about having such a useful device you ask? Well its more less that I can not have a desk the way I would like it. I want to have a desk with as little cable clutter as possible. That’s one thing I just can’t have with a laptop right now. When you have a desktop, all the cables go toward the back and stay that way. A laptop on the other hand is very different. I want to have all cables, like my USB and power cables to go back instead of being on the desk. Its annoying to see! The best thing is that everything but the basics are out of the way. If I had a laptop with several rear USB ports on the other hand... That would allow me to plug in what I need without the 7 port hub I have.
Also one thing annoying me is that I can’t use my 4GB SD card in my PC card format reader. It works with a 2GB but not my 4GB. That is really annoying as I rather use the nice size one. The good thing is that the 2GB is black though so it matches the iPAQ better. Who had the bright idea to make the cards blue is beyond me. I think the black ones look the best as everything is black or silver. Hell, most every PDA I have seen, the area near the card slot is black. I don’t care if it matches but I think it looks nice at least!!!
Ok, another annoying thing is that software seems to be either too much or too little. The perfect example has got to be with me and my iPAQ right now. Word Mobile cannot open more then one file at a time. That’s the main flaw but there a few little ones like the background spell checker. Now SoftMaker Office 2006 has these and WAY more. All I want is a basic editor that can do a Word file or a text file, and more then one of them. All I care about is being able to have a quick text file open, and the main file I am doing. I use the quick text file for making coding easier. Its a lot easier to me to copy and paste the template page then type the whole thing. I also have what I need in there to remember what I need to do. Like I have samples of IMG tags. This helps me for when I can’t remember what the tag is.
I found out that my favorite freeware file manager is also an FTP client. This means that I can update this site from the PDA that I code it on. Cool huh? I haven’t tried it yet as I need to do the finishing touches on the laptop but its nice to know that I could if need be! Funny as I was going to look for an FTP client for it too! What makes this great is that I can do a lot of stuff from the iPAQ! I have my instant messengers on it too. I can even go on IRC!
You know, IRC is pretty much useless! I go on looking for a Pocket PC chat looking for someone to talk to... There are no channels for it really. There’s a Handheld PC chat I go into some times that’s pretty fun. I am still looking for chats on other servers. I only check EFNET really. I do have my channel on the Freenode servers. If you want to go in, its on irc.freenode.net and the channel #MikeyPizano. Come on in to chat!
Why is it that software can’t be just what I need? A great example is SoftMaker Office 2006. Its very nice but overpowered. It has all I want and sooo much more! The thing is, there is only 2 features I really need. The background spellchecking with the red squiggles, and the multiple files at once. The other stuff, I can care less about everything else! Not to mention the fact the program takes up about 20MB!!! I have to look more.
I do this on my iPAQ and when I started this last night... Well, I had just finished the first page and TextMaker crashed! On me!!!!!! Lucky me, it save Every 8 minutes! This means that I didn’t lose much! Good thing I didn’t as when I am doing this I am just pulling stuff of the top of my head! This makes it pretty hard to remember what I typed! Just goes to show you that you really need to save often!
You know, its funny really... I am using the iPAQ more now then when I was in school! I was actually looking into getting either a case or an extended battery for it. This would help me out in the long haul. I did get a new stylus pen though. The old PhDMulti was on clearance for $2.50 so I said why not... They are not the most durable pens ever but for the price I figured why not get one right. I was going to get more then one but they didn’t have anymore. Too bad as they are nice for desk pens.
I also decided to try and learn PHP. I got a copy of PHP/MYSQL For Dummies for 7 bucks at Ollies Bargain Outlet. Unlike HTML For Dummies, I actually want to learn PHP so I will read this. This will be a fun experience as now I can make the site interactive. My first plan is to have a “add a link” form on the site. This would be much better then having the email link. It could be instant this way. The only problem is abuse. I guess I could have the form email me the link once I get sendmail. Of course there are the forums where you can post the link.
I got to go to my favorite place today... THE CHINESE BUFFET! We went to that new one again but for dinner instead of lunch. Oh god they had my favorite thing there too: CRAB LEGS!!!!! Man, I had a bunch of them things too! I must have had at least 3 huge plates worth. They are so messy and annoying to eat but damn are they good. I skipped desert as I was more interested in the crab legs then fruit today. I got to say I feel bad for the buffet owners as that is almost all I ate!
I also got some new energy drinks from BigLots. I got a can of Joker+Juice which I assume will taste like Monster Khaos as Joker tastes like the old version of Monster. I also got 3 cans of Freak in different colored cans so I assume they are all different flavors. I had a 24oz can of Amp last night for something different. Hey for 50 cents a piece, why not.

August 3, 2008

I remember that I was suppose to be doing some more reviews. I was suppose to review my Acer for one thing. I also remember say that I was suppose to do the second part of the iPAQ review. I am thinking of doing them soon as I have deiced that its time to scrape the gallery page. Its not worth coding it all since I have a Picasa gallery from Google. So Instead, I will have a link to that as the gallery. This will go directly to the gallery.
Now, the second look on the iPAQ thing is going to be a little different in terms of a review. It will mostly be an overview of how I like it. This will be part of a blog entry most likely. I may add it onto the review though also. We will just have to wait and see what happens really...
I think this whole 'cleartype' thing makes text look worse! I turned it off fast! All the text looked blurry to me. I don̢۪t see how it makes the text look better. There may be people who like it but I don̢۪t! The text looks fine too me! Too each there own though...
Well, I am trying out another new program... Its SoftMaker Office 2006. Its pretty nice but I don̢۪t know if I want to keep it though. Its a little too powerful for my needs... I am going to play with it for a little while and see if I can find something a little less memory heavy. I really like that it can do multiple documents and has the little red squiggles under misspelled words. As I said though, its a very nice program, but its a very heavy application for a PDA. I want to have a basic version of this that would only be what I need. Mainly multiple documents open at once. I am sure there are other ways of going about doing this too. I remember there being a input methods with lines of text you could have it enter for you. The bad this though is that they are quite long for what I need. Mainly the HTML code for the pages I need.
Good news everyone! The forums are back in action! Click the link on the side to go to them and make your account. Keep all email related options OFF!

August 1, 2007

well, I took a bit of a break but I am back now! Happy August everyone! A new month means a new page!
Just a little update on what I have been doing. I am planning on getting the gallery page up soon. I am trying to get the code done and uploaded soon. Its a metter of lazyness really. I will try and get them up soon I hope!
I have been messing with the iPAQ more now! I installed SPB Pocket Plus to mess with. I am using a een theme now. Very different really. I am starting to like the theme! I will have too keep looking online and see what I can find. It would be great to find an orange one! I think the worst I have ever seen though is the yellow one, of which I will have to post a screen shot of when I get the gallery up. I will Not do it like I did the NEC ones as I anot up for another 400 or more screen shots! Thats the main reason I am taking my time to get the pages up. I will get it up eventually though. I can always throw it up on this page too though.
I feelad that I got my MP3 player now... All I ever listen to is DI.FM Happy Harcore streaming radio when I have WiFi. Too bad I don't go outside much anymore due to the heat! I will just have to find a use for it! I was even thinking about putting some music on the iPAQ for when I don't have the Zen on me.
As I have said before I am trying to get more use out of my stuff now. Mainly the iPAQ and ThinkOutside StowAway keyboard. I have been experimenting with a few different uses. One of them is IRC. I just need to find a good chat really. I have been on the EFNET server a lot. #hpcfactor is an okay chat. Not many people there use a WM5 PDA since they are Handheld PC users. Of course, I can talk about my NEC there at least!
My overal goal is to breath some new life into my iPAQ. I don't want it to go to waste since school is over now. It is still handy for me. It makes quite a nice typewriter really. Really, I have gotten to like Windows Mobile A LOT more then Palm. Yes Shelly, I know you are reading this and probably gagging right now! HaHa! To me, Palm just isn't good enough for me. Sorry Shelly but its the truth.
I do miss my old Axim some days though. The thumboard I had bought for it was great. This was nice since I could use the PDA for a lot as a mini computer. All I really use it for is internet, games, and word. I could use it for more and I am trying too use oit more.
Man I love being able to code HTML where ever I want really. Really makes it easy to tweak the looks of the site. Like I learned how to do stuff like CSS. I am really getting to know how to make stuff look better too. Like my side bar. I code on my PDA a lot too!

July 29, 2007

Happy birthday to my Acer Aspire 5003WLMI!
Well my Acer is now one year old! Hard to believe as it feels like I just got it yesterday! Well, I am hoping that I get another year out of the battery now! Heres to one year with my Acer and the battery has only lost 5WH of capacity!
You know what? I THINK ITS TIME FOR A RANT!
This is one of them things thats bugging me now... The PDA market is beyond dead... Why is this? Simple, the companies like HP and Palm just plain don't care about them anymore. HP made a few phones and all Palm cares about is the Treo. This is a rant devoted to the lack of PDA use.
There are some stuff that can bring back the PDA market. The first thing though, is probably the biggest market for these devices.
The back to school market This is the biggest market if you ask me. There easier to travel from class to class with for one thing. Not to mention that the battery life is a lot better. They are getting close to what a student needs most in terms of the operating system programs. Couple the PDA like my iPAQ with a keyboard like my StowAway Bluetooth model. This is the ultimate in mobile computing for me. Its not as good as having a full operating system but its also a lot cheaper.
There is a way to make this seem important to kids and parents a like. We need to Stress the Features of One. They are not just a basic organizer any more. They are getting more advanced. Here is just some of the things that they can do!
Office Both Pocket PC (or Windows Mobile as its called now...) contain office programs. The ones on Windows Mobile are core programs in the operating system while Palm chose to bundle a very popular application with there operating system. Documents To Go for Palm OS is a very nice office suite. Windows Mobile has Word Mobile and Excel Mobile with a PowerPoint viewer, where as Documents To Go has Word, Sheet, and Slideshow programs that allow editing as well as viewing. This is great since you don't need to buy another application.
Music Yes, you can even use a PDA for music playing. They may not have a hard drive in them for the most part with a few exceptions like the LifeDrive that Palm made. I can use a 4GB SD Card with WMA audio files at 48KBS that sounds just fine, and fit A LOT MORE MUSIC THEN ANY IPOD NANO CAN! Plus there's the fact of that you can change the music player. Palm includes Pocket Tunes basic, and Windows Mobile has Windows Media Player. There are numerous others that you can use. Thats the best part as there are choices.
Internet Yes, they have Internet access now. This allows you to go online for information. Thus can help for when you are doing a report. This also openes up the use of online radio stations and chats. You can read the news from the palm of your hand. They both include a web browser so why not get one with WiFi and use it?
Reading eBooks You can get a reader for these and read a book in a digital format on your PDA. This can be helpful as there is no book to get ruined or lost. Plus this helps save paper and carry less stuff
The final reason I will tell you about is GAMES!!! There are many games, both free and commercial. Sure this isn't the best reason for school use but everyone needs a break now and then! There are games of every type for both Windows Mobile and Palm OS. Chances are you will find ones that you like. There are even high end games like Call of Duty 2 on Windows Mobile.
There are a lot of programs on both Palm and Windows Mobile... Thats the fun part of it! You can experiment and make the device just the way you want it. You may want a program that tells you the weather for example. There are programs that will do just that! There are themes that you can tweak the look to what you want in a PDA.
There is an idea I had that company's can do. They can make bundles that would be cheaper then buying everything separately. One possible bundle could be you pick the PDA you want, and what you want for it, and get maybe 20% off the total purchase. This could be anything at all that you want. You could get a case, a keyboard, a spare battery, and a SD card. The company could also box the bundle up.
They could also start including better software with it. My idea would be they would have a list off applications you can try, and pick so many of them, to get for free. Like you could have a choice of any 3 applications that you wanted from a list of maybe 10. This would be better since you would have more powerful programs. Even a discount is better then paying full price for them!
Another thing they could do is make them a multimedia device. This would be sold next to the iPod and other players. They could have options of flash memory to hard drives. For example, a 4GB flash model for 300 or a 80GB hard drive model for 500. They could also function as Internet devices. The Internet device could be larger and have a keyboard that would attach to it through standard USB.
Well, that was a long rant wasn't it? The sad thing is that I am not done yet! But now we are onto a different subject. While still on the topic of mobile electronics, this is a different subject. Lets continue!
One feature that all PDAs should have to me is USB host. This allows you to use a flash drive with the PDA. Really good for when you need the file on a computer. This would mean that you could take the file off the PDA, place on the drive, use the file on the computer, and put it back on the PDA. Very useful for word files and other documents. Such as when I code this website. Its much easier then me using an SD or Compact Flash card!
How many people remember the Handheld PC of yesteryear? Well, I am one of the people who still uses one as I have said before. They are quite amazing devices for when they came out. My NEC is so old yet has a lithium ion battery. This means that the PDA is light, if you can call almost 2 pounds light! The best thing about them is the keyboards and the operating system though. I can type on mine for a while before the battery is dead. I wish I could say the same for some laptops! My main question though has to be...
Why did these die? These are the perfect travel companion for me. They weren't meant to be a PDA really. They are too big for your pocket for the most part yes, but they make up in what they can be used for. I mean look at me, I code my website on it. There is one reason I love my NEC, even though you can't see the screen outside, is that its easy to use. Its like using Windows! The real sad this is that I can do something I can't do on my iPAQ!!! Multiple word documents open.
Okay, now I am done!

July 28, 2007

Well, today was an okay day. I decided to leave the T20 home today and just wing it! This wasn't much of a problem as its so damn hot today that I don't want to even take a laptop with me. I just can not wait for this summer to be over. I CAN NOT TAKE THIS HEAT ANY MORE!!!! It was suppose to rain today and we got nothing sadly...
I almost traded my NEC away... Sorry Alex, you are not prying this thing from me ever... It would have been for a older greyscale Compaq HPC and some other stuff I do not feel like naming.
I went to Old Country Buffet today. The food was okay... I didn't really want it but I ate anyway. I don't know why I didn't want it though. The good thing though next week is that I get Chinese buffet again! Now that I want! Plus in two weeks I get Bonaza steak! Now thats a great steak!
My new goal is to get another HPC one of these days. I hope I can get another free one though. I want a greyscale one that takes AA batteries now since I can not use the NEC outside. I also need to find a way to get multiple documents open on my iPAQ. That would make coding a hell of a lot easier. Yes I like to code on my PDA. In fact this was typed on my NEC with the finishing touches down on my Acer. Funny really, I haven;t really used the NEC and now I love it again and I am trying to make use of it.
Some people see coding on a PDA as stupid or painful. For me, I like that I can code on it instead of a desktop or laptop. They are easier to take with me then a laptop. I know, I am repeating my self as I know I have said this before... Oh and yes, I still love the T20. I just rather use the Acer now as the speed helps... Plus the widescreen makes coding nice as it does on the NEC...
I have done some reworking on teh blog now. You may have noticed that the archives page is on the SIDE and goes by months now. This is to make coding eaiser for me as all I need to do is add the new month link to the list and paste the links for the entries onto a new page. This also looks better to me. I do plan on tweaking the reviews page like this too if I ever add more.

July 27, 2007

Well, is SysAdmin Apprecation Day! Its the last Friday of every July. Pretty funny reason for a holiday if you ask me. Since this includes web masters such as my self...
Happy SysAdmin Appreciation Day to ME!
Since my friend got a Handheld PC like me now, he finally understands why I have a death grip on my NEC so badly. He got an older Compaq thats a little slower then mine but its nice. It takes a pair AA batteries, has a greyscale screen, and 8MB of RAM. It has Windows CE 2.11 like I do too. He doesn't have a nice keyboard like me though. I can type faster then he can on mine since I have the nice 92% full size keyboard. I just wish mine was as small as his. But I have both compact flash and PC card while he only has PC card!
I am really starting too see the main reason I love the NEC! Coding HTML! I can do it on the thing in a text file and rename to an HTML file. I also have to say that the wide screen makes this a breeze. Plus the fact of having such a nice keyboard to type on. I did notice one thing, CSS doesn't work on its web browser. Oh well right? Its old so I wasn't expecting everything new to work on it. But at least I can test the code.
I also found that this site isn't all that slow for dial up users. Good thing since that means I can get more readers. I hate waiting for a page to load so a fast load time is a good thing. Thats one of the great things bout having your pages as simple as mine. You can code them fast and they load fast!
I offered to give my friend a few pages on here but he didn't want them. Too bad really as I would love to share the 20GB I have. I will never use that much in my life! Hell, I can barely get this thing over a MB, let alone a GB. If I still had the forums, that size would be really handy. There is one thing I would love to do with this site and thats get it to be a nice big site!!!
There is one great thing about HTML... You can code it on almost anything. All you need is a text editor. If you can get it onto a computer that is. Sure its hard to code without a full size keyboard but it is possible to do. I have done this on numerous PDAs before. Its simple if you know how to get the keys for the tags. I have even coded in my Treo when I had it. That was a pain because you needed to use the option and FN keys.
There is one thing I would love to get just for the hell of it. A very old computer. That would be fun to code on! I seen some really cool PDAs that ran on DOS. Now I would love one of them to play with. I heard that the text editor on them can open a .txt from a memory card so I would be able to code on it.
I should check thrift shops like my friend does. He got the Compaq for 6 bucks. Man, thats a great deal if you ask me! The only thing he was missing for it was the sync cable and charger. But since his laptop has infrared, he can use that. The thing also takes 2 AA batteries so a charger is no nig deal for him.
Its really sad that I rather have an old computer then a new one! Why would I rather and old one??? Simple, they are really cool. The new ones are all the same to me anymore. I have a good enough laptop, why get another one? The old ones were really cool because they were different. It would be really fun to have one, even if it was just to mess with. Plus, its like owning a piece of history. Some old computers still sell for a lot of money.
Yeah, my geek side is really starting to show now! On a different subject now... My friend was thinking about getting a Wii for a bit but decided that they are just not worth it. Plus not to mention that annoying Wiimote. I rather use a keyboard and mouse for my games thanks. Too bad my laptop can't play most games I want to play though haha.
There are great reasons to play games on a computer... One is that the games are better. Another is the fact that they are easier to play. The main reason though is that you can upgrade the computer! No need to guy buy a new console!

July 26, 2007

I am really hoping that I can fill up this site soon! I mean I have 20GB of space. I will never be able to fill up that much space though. Maybe I will bring back the news page. Once I get the sendmail enabled however, I plan on getting a forum back up. I don't know if the forum will be added for sure though as sendmail is 500 coins as I have said before. Though they did disable phpBB due to security. I will just have too see what happens. I am not really worried about the forum though as it wasn't really that popular to me...
I am also considering adding a shoutbox to the index page. I am still confused at what I will be doing though. I hope that the link exchange thing will get me more readers. I know its just a simple site, but it loads faster this way. Plus I can get the coding done faster and that means the site gets up faster.
I know I said I was going to start reading HTML 4 for Dummies a while ago... Too bad I still haven't started yet! I have been kind of lazy with the whole reading thing. I still plan on reading this though. Maybe one day I will! Then again, I want to learn more CSS (cascading style sheets) so I can make the site look nicer. Maybe add some back ground stuff. For now I like my orange theme though.
Man it is really nice to have a battery on the T20 again. I can use it anywhere I want now since I don't need to plug it in. I don't need to use the APC battery either. Its very nice that I can finally use it as it should be used! Now its actually portable for me!
I have to say that the bag is really nice for the T20. The extra room on the side means I can place my mouse and adapter there. Its nice to have the free space. I haven't used it for the Acer yet. For that, I like the backpack case I have. My friend wants to get a backpack case for his laptop so he can use it for taking notes this year.
I am going to set up the dial up connection on my NEC again. The connection is free as long as you have unlimited long distance. Its quite fun if you ask me to be able to use something so old to go online with a PDA this old. Plus it gives me a chance to check the site on the old thing. Some people still use these with a WiFi card. It makes a ok internet device. I wish I could find one for mine. This would be very nice as an IRC computer since I have a keyboard on it!
I am asking anyone who wants to help me to do so with this! The disclaimer page needs more side effects. I ask people to email them to me. You can email them here. Thanks everyone, I need more stuff for it!!!

July 25, 2007

Well, I am just going to say no forums. Newsit.es is not going to all phpBB anymore due to security reasons. There are other forums that I can try however. Sorry to everyone who was on my forums before. I do hope that everyone enjoys my blog though.
I am announcing a new service of my site. I will post a link and a description for you. This is a free service and just as in return that you please link back to me. Use the email button on the Links page with subject "Link Exchange". I ask that you provide the link, what you wish link to say, and if you want, a description. I know, I am too nice!!
The more I think of it, the more is pisses me off. Why can't Windows Mobile 5 open more then one document at a time? There are not many times when I need it but WHY? My old NEC seems like it can do more to me. I mean, look at the way I can open a HTML file in Pocket Word and it will make it a text file for me, and then same as the HTML file. It only the NEC was smaller and could be seen outside. Though making the thing smaller would ruin the very nice keyboard that it has!
Heres a better question... Why did they have to stop making the handheld PC? I think that they are a lot better then most PDAs we have now. They have a keyboard for one thing. This makes them perfect for school use. They have the wide screen so its very nice to do documents on them. Not to mention the whole multiple documents at once!
I wish we would get a nice big thunderstorm soon. We need the rain and I just like storms! What would be really nice is that the grass would start growing in thicker too. The more grass, the more money I make too! I made 20 bucks for doing my neighbors. I really need money so I can get more toys!
I am hoping to get some use out of the RC car again soon. I know I said this before but I really need to start getting some use out of it now... The engine is getting kind of sad that I haven't started it in a while. I hope it will start easy this time. I can always put the rotostart back on. Actually I should put it back on. It makes the car so much easier to start up for me.
The laptop bad that I got is really nice. It feels so light compared to my old one. It could be that the Acer was 1.2 pounds heavier then the T20. I am convinced that the T20 is the best travel computer I have ever used. There is no hot air blowing on me at all. Maybe it is just me but I really must say that I love it so much more. Also with the new battery, its perfect. It lasts just as long as my Acer does now. Plus not to mention the TrackPoint makes everything really nice

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

July 24, 2007

Well, I am still in webhost limbo! I need to get the forums up and running... Theree is one main problem though. I need a way to get either the no mail mod installed, or sendmail. I can get sendmail for "500 coins" on the newsit.es forums. This is free but it will take some time. There is an option of using a free forum off of this main site. I will keep debating what will happen. Maybe I can get the forum installed here.
I want to start using my iPAQ more. Its not really worth the effort to make my laptop shopping really. Its nice to have but its a pain to carry. It also takes time to start back up. Plus I keep the iPAQ in my pocket in the store so it comes in handy. I can edit the entries whenever I get bored. I don't have to worry about if I have my laptop with me.
I am debating on whether or not I should get the off site forum. I can keep trying to get the on site one working but I am thinking of using a free off site one for now until I get the on site one up. I will just have to see what happens.
I would love to get a paid hosting and a .com website. This would be great since I could have my own domain. One day I will have a domain all to my own, but for now. this is good enough. I will try to get one eventually. If any one wants to buy me one for free though...
I am loving this new battery. It lasts a nice long time for me. It lasts a good 2 and a half hours! I want to get a second one but I don't have the money for it. One is enough though. I would like some RAM Though. Even with the small 384MB RAM, it runs great!!!
I want to see the Simpson's Movie. It looks pretty funny. I would like to see it but I will wait for the DVD. I will see it one of these days! It would be really nice to get the DVD.
I am so sick of seeing all this Harry Potter stuff. Its only a book people. I can wait for the movies personally. I seen videos on YouTube with spoilers. Wow people, is it really that funny to spoil the book. I would rather read the book then go by what people say happens. I already read it on Wikipedia anyway!
I ma really loving my new flash drive too. I installed the Portable Apps Suite from Portable Apps instead of the U3 software.

July 23, 2007

Well, I got all the pictures taken for the Acer Aspire 5003WLMI review. I am hoping to start it tomorrow if all goes as planned. Maybe even tonight after I post this. We will just have to see!
I must say that I am really enjoying the T20. For something this old, it runs great. The infrared port is by far my favorite feature right now. I can sync my old NEC again. While the 570 also has infrared, I rather use the T20.
Speaking of the old NEC, I am using it as a PIM (Pocket Outlook) device. I am mostly use the tasks feature for my website. This helps me know what I need to do with the site. I just wish I had a network card for it so I could do and upload the pages.
The news page today is quite big! I am glad that today seems to be quite a good day for news that interests me!
I am glad for FireFox, it makes doing the news page easy do to tabs. Yes, Internet Explorer 7 has tabs, but I hate it. I much rather use a good browser like FireFox. What I would love to know is what people want to use Safari. I know that Mac users even hate it and use FireFox. Sorry Apple, I am a happy FireFox user.

July 21, 2007

Well, I'm debating using a differnt style of blog. It would be a simple php blog. This would help me focus on getting them up faster since I would have less coding to do. Not that I have much now though! This all depends on how I feel though...
You know, there is one reason I still love my iPAQ! I can still use the Palm OS Graffiti 1 input letters. This allows me to write fast with very few mistakes... Why? Simple! Its still embedded in my brain from my SJ33 days! I still prefer the tap keyboard though. I feel it puts less stress on my screen protector. Its also faster for me... Man i love them ...'s!
Of course, there's always my one true method... The Bluetooth ThinkOutside StowAway Universal keyboard! I really love that thing! After using the T20 so much though, I can't get adjusted to it! If I had the one with a number row it wouldn't be so hard to readjust. The NEC isn't as hard to use since it has a number row. The keys are smaller though.
I am really trying to get more use out of my iPAQ any more! I have to get more use out of it to make me feel better about keeping it charged. My overall goal is to use only freeware programs on it. This is something thats been made easier to me now since I know there are a lot of free programs. Here is a list of what I have installed now, including my theme.
• FireFox theme I love FireFox a lot so this was a good theme to use. Its also very similar to the Bliss theme...
• S-Tris 2 Come on, every device needs Tetris! Its a very good free version that has both a classic and maniac mode which is a very hard version with non-Tetris 4 block pieces.
• lgtEditor I installed this HTML editor to try and do not know if I will be keeping it or using something else. Its one of the only 2 I found on FreeWare PPC.
• Peek Pocket Everyone needs a good WiFi scanner! Tells me one key thing too, if the network is locked!
• Total Commander The best freeware file explorer I have ever seen. I looove it!
• zsIRC Everyone needs a great IRC client on there PDA for when the urge to chat comes up!
I also have my drivers for my keyboard installed but I don't need to count that now do I?
Well today was a great day for me too! I found a case for the T20. Its for a 15.4 like my Acer but it has a divider in it. This means that the T20 fits great with some room on the side for other suff. This is great as now I have a better case for my Acer too. Its like getting 2 cases for the price of one! Speaking of price, it was on clearance for only 20 bucks!
While at OfficeMax, I had to get a flash drive that was cheap! It was a 512MB Lexar for only 10 bucks. I figured it would make a good back up drive. I can leave it in the bag for when I forget my 4GB.
I also got my favorite! Chinese buffet!!!

July 19, 2007

You know, there is one thing I really miss on Linux now... That little calendar! I have trouble remembering todays date sometimes. It really helped when I write these entries. At least you can hover over the date on Windows and get a small text box with date. Not perfect but better then nothing I guess!
I have to say, I really do love my T20 and its now been 2 weeks since I got it. I feel kind of bad for my Acer though! The T20 gets more use then it does. I really wish my Acer was smaller now! I also wish it had a TrackPoint like mouse!
I got 2 TrackPoint caps from a friend. I got a classic dome and a soft ring from him. I prefer the dome but they get dirty fast. They are also hard to clean from what I hear. I wish the 6 pack of caps that Lenovo sold for 10 bucks where all the classic dome. Its 2 of each type though. I do not really care for the other 2.
Guess what today is! The ThinkPad's 15TH birthday! Gotta say WOW. 15 years for one brand of laptop is pretty good if you ask me. I will always love the design of IBM and now Lenovo's laptops. Some people think they are ugly though. I personally love them. They are well made laptops. I just wish that my T20, I don't know what others have it though, didn't have the rubberized paint. It makes a nice grip though!
Something I have been thinking about lately is that Linux has gotten slower. I use to be able to run SuSE 9.2 on a 450MHZ Pentium 2 with 384MB of PC100 RAM and it ran great. I tried 10.2 on the T20 which is 300MHZ faster at 750MHZ and it was slow. I had the same amount of RAM. I guess Linux is losing its touch... Shame! I rather use Windows now since its faster.
I have starting getting sick of waiting for stuff to start up so I switched to AbiWord. I have probably said this before but it starts up fast once you disable the splash screen! Its not as advanced as OpenOffice.org but its a lot faster so thats a big plus for me. All I really care about is spell check! I just wish it had the auto replacement for a few words but its no big deal! I can use the help in learning to spell sometimes any way!
Man, I am really wish the weather would start getting colder soon. I would love to use my buggy more. It has just been too hot for me to feel like dealing with tuning the engine to hope it runs good. I then have to deal with the heat. No thanks, I can wait til the fall! Is a little cold air, like 70s so much to ask for?
I have to say, RC Driver is a great magazine. In the painting section this month, they made a Cheez-It theme body. Now I love food a lot but I don't think I could ever bring my self to making a body for my buggy about food. Thats a little crazy to me. The only thing funnier is when you see the look on peoples face when they see this thing. That must be the funniest thing ever. Taking your Cheez-It obsession to an RC scale!
Also in this magazine this month, they were talking about how nitro can be replaced by electric soon. The motors and batteries are starting to get up to what we need for this too happen now. They took a Losi 8ight and make it a brushless buggy. Its only a little heavier then the buggy stock minus the fuel. Pretty cool if you ask me. I prefer nitro but I would really rather have an electric anymore!!! Less cleanup, less hassle, and most importantly! Just plg and play! Sure you need to charge the batteries and get a few spares but it is so much easier then trying to get that engine started. Plus there is no tuning to do! The best part though is very little maintenance. I am not lazy but there is days when I just want to have some FUN and not try to get the engine started and tuned. Plus they don't make as much noise!
So far the server is still running great. There is one problem I am having though. My Acer and iPAQ can not connect to the drive. I find this to be kind of weird really. It worked fine for the T20. I am thinking for the iPAQ though, its due to it being a NTFS drive. The Acer though, I have no idea. The only bad thing is that I can't access the drive when I am not home. Oh well. I have flash drives I can use. I will have to use one for car trips. I love my Kingston DataTraveler 4GB drive. What makes the drive even better is that I got it for free!
Today started the Woot Off so I missed a lot of stuff. Good thing there is nothing I want! I did get what I wanted though. I got my laptop battery for T20 off Tiger Direct!

July 18, 2007

I am happy to say that the server is up for 3 days now. I am hoping it stays up for a long time.
I am addicted to Wind Waker now! Great! Just what is need is more video games! I have a little more to do and I will be done playing!
I am really looking into getting a battery and case for this T20 soon. I love it! They are only 65 on TigerDirect so I want to get them there. I would also love to get some more RAM and a case too. I still have to see what I can find. Hard to find a nice 14" case really!
I love how they cover logos on TV. Its so obvious what is under that sticker. Like when you cover up an Apple logo, its very easy to see its an Apple. Seriously, are they that cheap that they won't pay to use the damn logo! At least use a less noticeable product! Like say a computer no one pays attention too!
I really need to start making these entries longer. I am trying to get so much done though that it is hard to focus on the blog. I am trying to use my PDA more for one thing. The iPAQ has been sitting with no use for awhile now. I put Tetris on it so I am playing that once and a while now.
I should start coding on the iPAQ more. I use the NEC sometimes since it has the full keyboard. I can set up the Bluetooth StowAway though! Since I am done with school, I don't see many reasons to use the it. It makes coding a little hard sometimes as there is no number row. I try to avoid using numbers anymore though.
That will be one thing I will always miss from school! I loved getting 2 passes a day except for Wednesday to go to the computer lab. I would go there since my study hall teachers didn't let me use my PDA. It was always fun for me. I would just sit there with my PDA!
All I did on my PDA was type for the site too! I would have used the schools computers but why? I rather type on my PDA or a laptop. At least then I could take it with me! Thats one thing I love about laptops!
YOU CAN TAKE THEM WITH YOU!
Sorry its still a little short, I hope for a bigger one soon!

July 17, 2007

I am debating removing the news section now. I see it as kind of a waste now. Its nice to have it but its also a waste of time for me to code. All the news I post is on Engadget, Digg, and Snopes. I will leave the old pages up but I don't know if its sleeping.
I am getting sick of all these rumors. Look people, stop posting them already! I think most of them are made up anymore. Its very easy to say there is a new product coming out. I can post that the next iPod will have a user replaceable battery. ITS EASY TO LIE ON THE INTERNET PEOPLE! I will only use rumors to see what people think is coming, and wait until I see it for sale!
I am also getting sort of depressed with the iPAQ. I am noticing that its a little slow and lacks one feature. Multiple documents open at once. I need to be able to copy and paste from several documents for my website coding. I need to be able to test the site too. On the iPAQ, I need to save the file as a TXT and rename to HTML to test. This is a huge pain for me!
The really sad thing is the best PDA for me to code with has to be my NEC. It allows me to edit multiple documents at once! I can also edit HTML files. It converts it to a TXT file. I am able to test the site on it too. The only bad thing is that I can't use the CSS file. It will display it without the CSS formatting.
Sadly there is one main flaw with it. You can't see the screen outside. Too bad as it would make a great car trip computer. Its small and portable. Makes a perfect travel unit in general since I have 3 batteries. I also love the keyboard on it. Too bad that you can't see the screen outside.
Sorry for the shortness again. I am hoping to get some longer ones soon.

July 16, 2007

Its been awhile! The site updates were finished and now its time to get back to the blog. I ask that anyone reading this to please join my Forums. I would really like to see them grow and prosper.
The ThinkPad 570 Server (TP570S) is up and running. Now I have a wireless USB 1.1 160GB hard drive. It also acts as a shared printer. Seems like a good fitting use for a old laptop with a totally broken hinge if I do say so myself! The thing wouldn't get any other use so I think this is the perfect way to use it till it dies. So far, uptime has been a day. I will keep track of how many days it lasts. I should have used Linux but it is easier to do with XP.
I am really interested in trying to get the drive mapped on my PDA. Its easy to get it mapped on a computer. I have tried Total Commander and the built in file explorer and so far neither have worked. I am not really that concerned with getting it working as the one PDA that I do most of my code on doesn't have anything except dialup. So unless I get a WiFi card for it, I am not worried about PDA access.
The best reason to have this drive though is backup. This will make restoring my Acer much easier now. I could keep all I need in it! Just map the drive and there is all my files!
Really short entry, sorry

July 9, 2007

July 8, 2007

Well, I am going on a small car trip today. To Allentown actually. We are going to get a refugium for our reef tank. This hangs on the back of the tank to grow food for the tank. This is for growing 'pods' for our mandarin. Pods are little shrimp like things...
Seen the wind farm again today! This time they were at a good angle and you got to see the box too! Damn those things are huge! The company got more land to put up even more of them! The power company has to buy power for 17 years. I would love to have one of them in my yard for power...
Well, I am amazed at how much better then T20 is for the Focus. Its a lot easier to use it in the back. The Acer was too big and would bump the seat. This meant that when you would hit a bump, it would bump the seat. Plus the thing fits on my lap better!
The TrackPoint also makes car use a breeze! Its a lot easier for when I need to fix a typo or misspelling. Plus you don't need to move you hands all over the laptop. I can type comfortably and use the mouse with minimal room.
Since this is like all my other entries, it is stated in the morning and posted at night. I am about half way done with the T20 review. I have to retake some pictures though. I plan on getting is uploaded laster tonight or tomorrow.
I am also thinking about replacing the Linux page with a software page. This would be a place for software reviews mostly. I would also post my favorite freeware and announce new versions. Software reviews will still be on the reviews page also. This is not a definite change yet.
Well, T20 is getting a real work out today! I know I keep saying this but... I LOVE IT! I installed ActiveSync on it for my PDAs. This is a good computer for that as it has a serial port for my NEC, or at least it has a serial port! I need a new serial cable for the NEC as that broke. It has the infrared port (thats IR for those who don't know) so I can send files and sync through it. The only downside is the 1 USB port and its location. It is on the back but its in a hard to get to area.
USB is something that really annoys me. Its UNIVERSAL serial bus, so why aren't all the cables the same! I think we need to replace the B end with the Mini B on everything. This way we have one small sized connector. Next, we need to get rid of these special docks. Cradles are nice but why can't we make a Mini B cradle? Or if you really must use a special connector, why not have a Mini B too? They don't take up much more room.
I also hate that when I travel, I need to take so much crap with me. If everything used the same cable for charge and data, I could only carry one small cable. I have a retractable Mini B USB cable that I usea lot. Also would be nice is having universal laptop adapters. How about at the very least, make them work on 12V DC so I don't need an inverter.
OK update for ya! I finished the T20 review! Yep, I finished it!

July 7, 2007

Well, its Saturday once again! Its also the seventh day of the seventh month of the seventh year of the 21st century. I am no number freak but thats kind of funny. 7 + 7 + 7 = 21. Last year had June 6, 2006 though! Funny thing is that was the day we graduated last year. I was still a junior though.
Well all good things must come to an end. They disconnected out Sirius in the truck. We only had 6 free months anyway. We have to go get the kit to put in the other receiver now. Its not worth adding a second unit to the bill. That costs an extra 7 a month.
For my Focus, I plan on using my Zen Vision:M for music for when my parents have the Sirius. I rather use my Zen anyway as I prefer happy hardcore over anything on the radio any day. Nothing like blasting fast techno! Good thing my Zen gets good battery life! I don't have a car charger for it...
I am going to a new Chinese buffet later today. I love Chinese food! I will have a update with how the food was later. This is suppose to have a TON of food. I hope they have snow fish like the one I use to go to had before they changed owners. One good thing about Chinese food, its very easy to find. This new is pretty much down the road from the one I use to go to.
On the chair ordeal, I have decided to just compromise and get the mid-back chair. I wanted to get a full-back, but I guess I can give up a little comfort to actually have a chair. I will make an update later if I and when I get the chair.
I feel bad cheating on my Acer with this T20 but I am love. This is the best laptop I have ever used. Sure, my Acer is better specs wise, but that just doesn't match the level of comfort I get from using this T20. As you can see, the review will be a very positive one! I started it this morning actually. Heres just a few reasons why I love this T20 so much...
The keyboard is great. Its a not very soft yet not very stiff but has a firmness to it. The keyboard is also a bit quieter then my Acer. The only things I would change is that there is no Windows or "super" key on it, and the Insert/Delete/Home/End/PgUp/PgDn keys are at the top corner and not on the side. Otherwise, its perfect!!!
There is no touch pad which makes it great for in the car. Its much easier to use the TrackPoint in the car then try and use a touch pad. I also like the fact that it means much less moving your hands. The mouse buttons are right under the space bar so you can just use your thumbs. It really makes using the laptop in a tight space easier. I love how easy it is to move long distances with it too.
And the last reason I love using it over my Acer is that its a little smaller. The 14 inch screen is perfect. Compared to my 570, its just slightly bigger. Its a SVGA (or 1024 by 786) resolution screen. This makes it perfect for me since when I am doing the stuff for my site, I don't feel like the wide screen is a waste.
If I had to chose a new laptop, I would chose a ThinkPad, hands down. The Lenovo made T60 series is very nice as it has both a TrackPoint and a touch pad. This gives you the best of both worlds! While I do prefer the TrackPoint I do like touch pads to!
OK, on the chair topic... I got one that is pretty much the same as my old one. It was 80 bucks and a 3 year replacement plan was only 10 bucks more. So this means that if my chair breaks within 3 years of today, I get a new one. Pretty great deal huh? Also, it turns out my old one was a mid-back after all...
Now on the subject of the Chinese food! Well, to me, pretty much all Chinese food is good. This was close to the one we go to, so I think it may be from the same owners. None the less, they had different food and good food. Thats all the matters to me is the taste and selection.
I have been thinking about that damn ASUS Eee PC! The battery is suppose to be 5200MAH and the processor is only 900MHZ. I have read that battery life is about 3 hours. So heres my point... The battery is 800MAH more then my Acer, the screen is a lot smaller, and its all flash bases, not to mention slower. So why is it that it gets 3 hours like my Acer?
I have probably said this before but I want a laptop with amazing battery life. I just want to have a laptop that I don't need to charge every 3 hours. I have an inverter but some times I just hate having to use it in the car on every trip. I don't mind using it some times.
Heres the Perfect Laptop in my opinion. I will break it down into sections.
Battery life As stated, this needs to be at the least double digits. I could go with either a huge battery, double batteries, or a fuel cell. The battery can only be so big or it will be too heavy to be perfect. Another option would be a way to have hot swappable batteries, or make it hibernate fast enough to make it a quick task. A fuel cell could provide a quick way to get back up a running...
Processor This is a very touchy subject here. Whats right for me, isn't right for everyone. I want to have a very low clock speed, but have the speed of a faster one. This helps save battery life. I want to have a processor that can run at, say 500MHZ, but be just as fast a 2GHZ. This would be helped along by the...
Operating System This would be based on Linux. It would need to be very efficient as to make good use of the slower processor speed. This would make it cheaper to produce as well. Software can also be tailored to the slower speed. But to be the perfect computer, it needs to have good...
Standard Software There would be low weight office applications, such as AbiWord. Thunderbird, FireFox, and Pidgin would be standard applications. There would also be software such as NVU for web creation.
The case There must be one thing that the case needs to have. The intake vent would be placed on the top of the unit, where the keyboard is. This allows you to have the laptop on any surface without over heating issues. The outtake vents would be on the back of the unit. This prevents getting hot air blown onto your legs. A design that most fail to have in my opinion.
Size I want to have a laptop that, in my opinion, is the best size ratio: 12 inch. This is neither too small nor too big. Its perfect for me. It lets you have a full keyboard too.
Ports and other things I want at least 3 USB ports. One on each side and one on the back. There would be a hard drive instead of a flash based drive. To me,flash based drives aren't ready yet as they drive the cost up.

July 6, 2007

Well, I found this a little funny! Guess what laptop I have beenusing now... Not my Acer, but the ThinkPad T20! Sure its only a 750MHZ Pentium III but it runs great! I am not saying that my Acer is bad though. Its just that this IBM is my new toy so I want to use it. Plus, the keyboard on it is just so quiet! I can hardly believe it compared to my other IBM. No wonder why people say IBM makes the best keyboards...
The news page has been a little dead. This is because I haven't really seen any news thats been of interest to me. I will try and find some news later. There may be a news post today, there may not be. Sorry for the inconvience to those who love the news page.
I forgot to mention that the site has reached over 200KB! This is a good milestone and I hope to get to 300KB soon! I also plan on checking the size more often to see what we are at. I may add this onto the index page. There will be at the very least, an announcement on the Announcement Page.
I have decided to change software again! I will be using NVU to make the page, but will be coding with AbiWord. This is because Dream Weaver will only run on my Acer and it makes the computer run hot. I will start putting a "Made with NVU" thing on the bottom of pages when I update them now. This will only be on pages that I update though.
You know, I found out a really easy way to update the site. I can just make a zip archive of the files I want to upload, and upload that small file. I can then unzip them on the site. This makes it easier since you can only upload 3 files at a time on 110MB.com with the file manager. I rather not have the hassle of trying to set up a FTP client.
I hate to say this but I decided that the ASUS EEE PC isn't a good idea. My dad brought this up actually. What happens when the SSD gets worn out? Flash only has a limited number of read/write cycles. Plus, at 7 inches, its kind of small. The screen bezel is much bigger then 7 inches too. The laptop is sized for a 10 inch screen. Plus, what I have been reading says that the battery life isn't really good anyway. I much rather use my IBM ThinkPad really. Its perfect for in the car use.
I have decided that it would be more beneficial to just get a battery and a 256MB stick of RAM for the T20. This will make it an even better computer for mobile use. I will probably get a few little small things with these just to make up the slack. Maybe a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card, or a second card reader like my 5 in 1 that is for laptops. I hate USB ones...
I now plan on getting rid of the Linux link now. This could also help me update all the pages to be Made with NVU and add the copyright line. This will not be an immediate thing as I am not in the mood to do another global overhaul. Plus, I may put Linux on the T20. There are a few other Linux distributions i can try. I will just have to experiment with it.
Nothing like a messed up lawn mower to make you feel stupid. I was cutting my grandparents grass and instead of using the rider, I rather use the self propelled push mower, as its easier for me. I miss less spots with the push mower. Plus, I can use the exercise of the push mower!

July 5, 2007

Well guess what came today! Yup, the T20!
The laptop is running Windows XP Pro, not Ubuntu like I was planning. I'll explain more in a second. The laptop, as stated before is a 750MHZ Pentium 3, and had 256MB of RAM, I upped the RAM to 384MB and plan to get the RAM up to its maximum of 512MB. Its hard to find PC100 SODIMM RAM cheap though. The hard drive is 40GB. One of the cooler features though is the ThinkLight on the top. Very nice!
Now, about the Linux situation! I decided that I would stop using it. Why? Simple answer is too many little annoyances. The long answer is there were too many annoying things for me. Like my flash drives didn't always work right. I rather just have an operating system where all my stuff works. Plus, all the applications I need for Linux are on Windows anyway.
I have to say, XP isn't really a bad operating system. I just like Linux because its different. Does this mean I am giving up on Linux forever? No, not at all! I plan on getting the Asus Eee PC when it comes out. It will run a variant of Xandros Linux. This will be perfect for doing my website on. The fact that it runs on Linux means that I can do everything code wise, with the same programs I use all the time. Its a win win situation!
What does this mean for my Linux page? Well, I will be keeping it up for now. This is in case I decide to go back to Linux. It will also serve as a page for my Asus Eee PC if I get one. One The page seems like it is no longer needed, I shall delete it.
The review for the T20 will come so when I feel like doing it, as I have been very lazy lately.

July 4, 2007

Today, I will be posting a different kind of blog entry. There will be a few topics I wish to discuss. Think of it as a look back on the technology we lost. Yes, while we are moving forward all the time. I do believe that there is technology that either didn't catch on, or just faded away. Lets take a step back in time.
There is one PDA you have probably never heard of, the Psion. The Psion was a small keyboard equipped PDA that ran on AA batteries. The first models were very basic and looked like a calculator. The next set of models were greyscale screen clamshells. These had touch sensitive screens and ran on 2 AA batteries. Some were expandable, some not. Some lacked a backlight also. These make the perfect PDA for writers on the go.
The Psion used an operating system called EPOC, which later became known as Symbian. They had great built in software and there was even a Linux port for them. The screen resolution was a wide 640 by 240 Half VGA or HVGA screen. This made using the built in programs nice as they could display more data then other PDAs on the market at this time.
The Psion was eventually made color with the debut of Series 7. These still ran the EPOC operating system. They had a full VGA screen, or 640 by 480. The Netbook series was similar. The Psion Teklogix Netbook Pro is the only one to run on Windows CE. The only one not to have a keyboard is the Psion Netpad. The Netpad uses a HVGA screen.
Next, we have the Handheld PC. These PDAs run on Windows CE also. There rapidly changed from the basic concept to the more powerful models soon after. The Handheld PC was a very loose platform. Some of the basic requirements were run windows CE, have a resolution of 480 by 240 or more, and include a keyboard, compact flash slot, PC card slot, infrared data port, and serial, or usb connectivity. Not every company followed these guidelines though. There is at least one without a keyboard.
Most early Handheld PC models had a small, tiny keyed keyboard. Most of these also had a small screen. These used SH3 and Sh3 CPU's. Some of the next models started to have a real keyboard and color screens were coming into common usage. Newer models that came next used a MIPS CPU. The third generations used ARM CPU. The operating system resembles Windows 95 and on. Newer models contained features like USB host, which was only on a select few models, and MP3 playback. There are even programs for playing movies.
There are common screen problems however. The DSTN color screens were very slow to refresh, had ghosting problems, are are impossible to be seen outside. While some DID have a TFT display, DSTN was more common. Another common problem with these are that the PC card slots are not CardBus. This means that while it is possible to find a WiFi card for them, it is very hard. There is a built in modem for most models.
While they are not common to still see in use, there are people like me who still use them. The built in software, for the most part, is good enough for most usage. There are still programs for them, but unless you own one of the ARM models, its not easy to get.
These are very easy to use for writing since they contain a keyboard. They are also very good for using as a internet device. They can also be useful as a PDA if you don't mind a big unit. These can be very good units if you can find one.
Next, we have the Sony Clie line. There is an accent over the e but I do not feel like using it. The Clie was a very nice line of Palm OS PDAs with various designs. Some were tablets, some were clamshells. They were more expensive then other PDAs at the time. They had a memory stick slot on all models and a few had compact flash card slots. They were used for WiFi first and Sony later opened up the slot to memory.
The best models were the clamshell series. The NZ90 was one of the most expensive models. It contained a 2MP (megapixel) camera. The only models with WiFi were the TH55, TJ35/TJ37, and UX50. Of these, only the UX was a clamshell. It was a wide screen landscape display. The TH55 was the only tablet model with the HVGA 320 by 480 screen. The other models were all 320 by 320.
Sony helped make the PDA market what it is today. Thanks to Sony, we have 320 by 320 and 320 by 480 high resolution screens. Sony also helped make music playback standard. There were few Clie's that lacked the music playback option. While these were popular, they cost too much for the average user.
Sony often had a thumboard on there PDAs. A thumboard is a small keyboard that you type with only your thumbs. These were on all clamshell series and on the TG50. The TG50 was the only tablet model with a keyboard.
Next, we have the Linux based PDA. Sharp had a line called the Zaraus. These were similar to the UX series of Clie's. They started off as a tablet with a slider keyboard. They changed to the now familiar clamshell. These started off with a QVGA 240 by 320 screen. The clamshell models changed to VGA.
None of these models had WiFi. They did have both compact flash and SD card slots though. This made it easy to add WiFi to them. They ran on a version of Linux. They started including a hard drive, in a compact flash form factor, inside the unit. This allowed you to be able to add WiFi to it via the still open compact flash slot.
All of these have been since discontinued. Sad, they were very nice. I am glad that I have my NEC MobilePro 780 still. I would love to get a better model though. The 780 is quite old but is still a useful device.
The rest of this blog entry is going to be a little bit rant.
One thing that annoys me is all these different memory card types. I think we need to get rid of a lot of these. Like Micro SD cards. I think that these are too small. Small cards are a good thing, but these are too small. The smallness of them makes them very easy to lose to me. I say we stop now before we go even smaller. lets focus on adding more storage to teh devices themselves instead of making smaller memory cards.
Well, the ThinkPad T20 didn't come yet. I am hoping to get it tomorrow. I have been thinking of what I will be doing with it. My plans are to get the RAM maxed out at 512MB. I will be installing Ubuntu on it. This will be used in the car a lot due to the one feature I think all laptops need. A light that is on the top of the screen that shines down on the keyboard. Also the TrackPoint is very helpful.

July 1, 2007

Well, the site overhaul is pretty much done. I have a coming soon for the Linux page for now. I plan on making it soon as I get the T20 and install Ubuntu and have everything tested. The electronics page will also be updated soon as I get the T20. I am going to post the review of the T20 soon also.

I am glad to announce the return of the Forums. This means that you will be able to comment on these entries. I am only adding it to new blog and news entries. This entry will have a comments section posted on he forums. I will not post the whole entry there, you will have to view it here.

The ThinkPad T20 was suppose to come on Friday and I am sad to say that I didn't get it yet. I will get it Monday, tomorrow. I am also no longer going to get the Clie NX70 trade as we decided it was for the best not to. I have to many PDAs and she rather not give up the NX.

I had a very good steak yesterday. I went to Bonanza Steak House. I got a full pound of porterhouse steak and the buffet for 15 bucks! It was by far the best steak I have ever eaten! I would love to go back for another steak right now! I think I liked it more then I like the Chinese buffets, and I love Chinese food!

I have been using Ubuntu for awhile and so far, its running great. I worked out the little kinks and now everything is working. I am making a page for Linux. I want to save this page until I get the T20 and install Linux on it. This will give me time too see how everything works. I will then make lists of what does and doesn't work. This will take some time so please, no riots. I am only a humble webmaster without the time needed for everything I need to do.

So, Friday was iDay, the iPhone launch! SO how many people here wasted the 600 bucks on this thing? I for one will not waste that much on a phone. The phone could be the best phone ever made, I will not spend 600 on a phone. I use a cell phone for basic calling only. I would never spend even 100 bucks. I see the most I would spend as around 50. For a phone, its not even worth that to me.

The iPhone has 8GB of memory right? Well from what I read, 700MB of that is the operating system so that leaves you with about 7GB left. Sad that you can get a Treo 680 and SDHC card (that would be 8GB) for half the cost! Yeah, good job Apple. I would rather a removable battery, a real operating system that can do work like edit Word documents, and be able to chose my music player. then a fancy multi touch screen. Plus, I rather a cell phone service that actually gets good signal. Sure, Verizon may not have the best phones, but I rather signal quality any day!

Also, I know I am going to get criticized for this, but I really am starting to think that maybe Palm OS is better then Pocket PC. I have always been mixed feelings on this really. Palm OS has the speed and ease, but Pocket PC has more options, and way better on screen keyboard. The built in programs are a bit better on Pocket PC too. Like I rather Pocket Internet Explorer over Blazer any day. Pocket PC makes editing HTML easier due to the better web browser.

There is also this one thing that makes my iPAQ better then my Palm TX. The hardware itself. Palm doesn't make the best hardware to me. There screens are pretty much crap now. They get drift and are too soft. The most important thing though is the battery. On my iPAQ, I can easily change batteries. All I have to do is shut the PDA off and open the battery cover. On the TX, the battery is soldered in so there is no easy way to change batteries.

This is one thing that really annoys me. Batteries are the worst thing ever when it comes t gadgets. Once they die, they are usually a pain to replace. The iPod is a great example of the “once the battery dies, its useless" law. The battery is so hard to replace, its easier to just get a real MP3 player. The Zen Vision:M I have is the same way though. I would rather that everything have a cheap, easy to replace, and long lasting battery. I would rather use a NIMH battery if it lasted longer. Laptop batteries are the worst as they run about 100 bucks, give or take.

Speaking of laptops, the T20 I will be getting hopefully tomorrow is only a 750MHZ, not an 800MHZ. We made a mistake on the chat, but I don't think that 50MHZ is that big of a deal. It will run good with Linux on it hopefully.
